BIOGRAPHY
Brenda Nicole Moorer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Atlanta, GA as a teenager. She is of African, Irish, and Native American descent.
She fell in love with acting at Dekalb School of the Arts and went on to train with C Patten Studio in NYC. She received a full scholarship to Yale University, but was unable to attend due to family hardships. She received a full scholarship to attend Georgia State University and graduated Magna cum Laude, despite becoming a single mother during her senior year. She then went on to study Arts at Savannah College of Art where she graduated Magna cum laude with a MA in Arts Management. She began working with theaters and non-profit organizations, including New York Philharmonic and Kenny Leon's True Colors Theater, while continuing her work as an independent singer/songwriter and her acting studies.
Brenda spent years working as a background actor and singing in shows like BET's "American Soul" alongside Big Boi, BET's "Star" alongside Queen Latifah, and the movie "Jacob's Ladder" alongside Nicole Behari and Michael Ealy.
Her first big break came when Tony-Award winning director, Leisl Tommy, cast her in the role of Brenda Franklin in the MGM Official Aretha Franklin biopic "RESPECT". Brenda sang live in the movie alongside Jennifer Hudson and was billed as a supporting role. The movie was nominated for NAACP Best Motion Picture.
Despite the industry shut down from the pandemic, in October 2020, she released her third album "MARROW" with Troy Miller (Gregory Porter's producer) on Ropeadope Records. Jazz FM says the album is "Absolute quality all the way through!"
A year later, in October 2021, she booked a role in ABC's "QUEENS" playing opposite of Naturi Naughton.
In 2022, she booked a role in HBO's tv series, "The Staircase."
Brenda and her partner, Rhett Huffman, own a vintage centric recording studio called Saturn VI in Atlanta, GA.
